Non-Conference Play Continues For West Georgia This Friday at Home

11/20/2025 10:15:00 AM

CARROLLTON, Ga- Coming off its first road victory of the season, West Georgia men's basketball returns home to host USC Upstate this Friday (Nov. 21) at 7 p.m. in The Coliseum. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+, and tickets can be purchased using the link at the top of the page.

Looking to stay perfect at home, UWG (3-2) welcomes a Spartans (3-3) team that is coming off an 88-84 loss to Tennessee Tech (Nov. 19), who the Wolves just beat 61-59 on the road this past Monday (Nov. 17). Friday's match marks the first ever head-to-head between West Georgia and the Spartans

Continuing his streak of setting new scoring bests is guard Chas Lewless. Through five games, Lewless has dropped 11, 12, 13 and 16, before totaling 19 at Tennessee Tech. Currently, he averages 14.2 points, 4.4 assists (fifth in the ASUN) and 4.2 rebounds per game on 41 percent shooting from the field and 36 percent from three (eighth in the ASUN).

One Wolf coming off back-to-back double-doubles is forward Shelton Williams-Dryden, who totaled 19 points and a season-high 13 rebounds in the Wolves' latest game. Five games in, Williams-Dryden leads the team averaging 18 points (fourth in the ASUN) and 8.8 rebounds (second in the ASUN) per game while shooting 43 percent from the field and 60 percent from three. The forward is currently riding an 11-game streak in which he scored ten or more points.

Remarkably, Friday night will mark senior wing Kolten Griffin's 100th career game at West Georgia. Through four seasons, Griffin has played in 99 games and made 98 starts, totaling 2917 minutes played, 771 points, 525 rebounds, 158 assists, 85 steals and 52 blocks. Starting in all five games this season, Griffin has averaged 7.6 points, 3.2 assists and 3.2 rebounds while tallying seven steals and three blocks.

Riding a two-game losing streak, the Spartans will look to its top scorer, guard Carmelo Adkins, to try to overcome the Wolves' defense that leads the ASUN in blocks (32) and is coming off a historic performance in which they limited its opponent to the lowest total allowed since joining DI (59). In USC Upstate's latest game against that same opponent (TTU), Adkins led the Spartans with 22 points, marking his second 20-plus-point performance of the season. Through six games, the 2024-25 Big South All-Freshman guard averages 16 points (seventh in the Big South), five rebounds and .7 assists per game while shooting 50 percent from the field (sixth in the Big South) and 54 percent from three (first in the Big South).

Following Adkins in scoring is guard Karmani Gregory, who is averaging 14.8 points, 2.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game while shooting 45 percent from the field and 27 percent from three. In the Spartans' season-opening win over California Baptist (Nov. 3), Gregory knocked down a season-high 24 points, marking the third time he has scored 20 or more during his two-season career with USC Upstate.

Like the Wolves, USC Upstate leads their conference with 29 team blocks. Leading the charge for the Spartans and ranking third in the Big South is forward Jafeth Martinez with 11 blocks.

Looking at team stats, UWG has averaged 79.2 points per game while shooting 47 percent from the field and 42 percent from three. Defensively, the Wolves have allowed an average 80.6 points. For USC Upstate, the Spartans average 84.2 points per game while shooting 49 percent from the field and 34 percent from three. On defense, the Spartans' opponents have conceded an average of 68.8 points per game.
