CARROLLTON, Ga. - The fourth award of the 2020 WESTPY Awards presentation comes on Friday, May 8, as UWG Athletics continues the 2020 Virtual WESTPY Awards. This year's awards are presented by Advantage Office Solutions and the Georgia Army National Guard. Today's award is the Men's Career Achievement Award, and it goes to quarterback
Willie Candler.
The Men's Career Achievement Award has long been one of the top four awards presented at the WESTPY Awards, as it is given to a senior athlete who has been at West Georgia for the entirety of their collegiate career. The winner is one who has earned awards at the conference, region, and national level or is a record holder in their sport.
Willie Candler encompasses all of those categories, as he redshirted in the 2015 season and became the starting quarterback with four games left in 2016. His resume includes the school career record for touchdown passes, completed passes, and passing yards. He also holds the top two seasons for touchdown passes and yards in school history and he holds the record for single-season completed passes. As a junior in 2018, he was named All-Gulf South Conference by conference coaches after leading the Wolves to a 10-2 record. He finished his career as the career record-holder for wins as a starting quarterback, leading the Wolves to 28 victories in his four-year career.
