Carrollton, GA - The lights will be on Thursday night at University Stadium, as the West Georgia Wolves will host their second of three televised games during the 2012 season, this time playing host to the North Alabama Lions on the GSC-TV Live Game of the Week.
Both teams enter Thursday's contest coming off of a heartbreaking comeback attempt that fell just short. The Wolves rallied from 13 points down to take a second half lead on the road at Delta State, but the Statesmen pulled out a 33-24 victory with some late-game heroics. North Alabama manufactured a furious second half comeback after falling behind 24-0 to Valdosta State, but fell short in a 24-21 loss at home.
UNA is the lowest scoring team in the league this season, averaging 26.1 points per game on the year, but the Lions are also the stingiest, giving up just over 16 points per game. Four Lions are in the top-10 in the Gulf South Conference in interceptions, led by Caleb Massey with four.
West Georgia has thrown eight interceptions this season, but last week against Delta State, the Wolves passing game accounted for just 77 yards while the ground game went for 253. Two UWG players rushed for 100 yards against the Statesmen, as
David Bailey and
Dallas Dickey went for 111 and 110 yards, respectively. It was the first time that feat was accomplished by pair of UWG backs since Stan Rowe and Abe Felix in 2005.
North Alabama has a seven-game winning streak in the series, dating back to 2005. The Lions hold the advantage in the overall series, 19-10.
In addition to being broadcast on CSS, the game will be on ESPN3, with information on accessing that link
