Football Week 4: GSC Opens with UWA

Carrollton, GA - With a week off under their collective belts, the UWG Wolves are set to begin Gulf South Conference play this Saturday, taking on the 19th-ranked West Alabama Tigers in Livingston, Ala. Kickoff for Saturday's contest is set for 7 p.m. (EST).

The Wolves are coming off of a tough loss to the Miles Golden Bears a week ago, a game where UWG came from behind and took a fourth quarter lead, only to fall just short in the waning minutes of the contest. West Georgia is 2-1 on the season.

The Wolves are led by an offense that has scored a pile of points in the three games thus far on the year. West Georgia scored 37 in the loss to Miles, the lowest point total of the season for the UWG offense. The Wolves are averaging 43 points per game on the season, while giving up just 25 points per contest.

West Alabama delivered a message to the Gulf South Conference coaches that voted Valdosta State the top team in the GSC in the preseason poll, beating VSU on their home turf, 39-28 in both teams' conference opener.

The Tigers are also scoring a lot of points this season, averaging 32.5 points per game and giving up 16.2. The UWA offense is fairly balanced, but the Tigers have rushed for nearly 1,000 yards while passing for just over 700. West Alabama has thrown five interceptions this season with only 47 pass completions.
