MEMPHIS, Tenn. – It was a solid effort from the UWG volleyball team as the Wolves returned to the win column with a 3-0 sweep of Christian Brothers in road Gulf South Conference action on Saturday.
The win moves the Wolves to 8-6 overall and 2-3 in GSC play while the Bucs to 2-15 overall and 0-5 in league play.
Set One
Neither team was ever able to gain much of an advantage, as UWG's final margin of 25-21 was the largest lead of the set. It was also a set of runs, as West Georgia had a pair of 4-0 runs in the match and CBU had a 4-0 run as well.
West Georgia eventually pulled away, claiming the four-point victory and the early lead in the match.
Tierra White led the way in the opening set with three kills while four other Wolves had two kills each in set number one.
Set Two
West Georgia jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the second, and hit .323 in the set to cruise to a 25-18 victory and a 2-0 lead in the match.
Defensively, West Georgia had three blocks in the set, and on offense,
Caitlin Frazee had four of West Georgia's 15 kills in the second set.
Third Set
The offensive production dropped in the third, hitting just .189, but the defense forced 10 CBU attack errors as the Wolves completed the sweep with a 25-17 victory.
For the match, West Georgia hit .234 while the Bucs hit just .027.
Emilee Harris and
Caitlin Frazee led the offensive attack with eight kills each while
Tierra White added six. Frazee was error free on the day and hit .364.
Autumn Mayes had 23 assists and added five kills to the cause.
Defensively, Mayes led with 18 kills while
Sydney Blackmon had 17. White had six of UWG's 14 blocks. CBU had just three blocks as a team.
West Georgia is back in action on Wednesday, traveling to Augusta to take on the Jaguars of Augusta University at 6 p.m.
