Wolves Lose in Friday Night GSC Action

Box Score CARROLLTON, Ga. = The return to Gulf South Conference play did not go the way of the Wolf on Friday evening as the West Georgia Wolves lost 3-0 to Alabama Huntsville on the road. 

The Wolves, playing for the first time since the Gulf South Conference / Sunshine South Conference Crossover last weekend, came into the evening beginning the final stretch of the 2021 regular season with first year head coach Kara Hellmann. UWG entered the weekend in sixth place in the Gulf South Conference with six matches left in the season. The top eight teams in the GSC standings will reach the 2021 Gulf South Conference tournament. UAH came into the match with a 7-2 record and in second place in the league while the Wolves were 5-5. 

The first set opened with a 5-3 lead for the Wolves, but the Chargers came right back with a four-point run, taking a 7-5 lead. The Wolves would pull within a point once more in the match, but UAH pushed the lead out to as many as 13 before the final point to take a 25-13 win. In the second set, the two teams held close for the first 18 points before UAH started to pull away as the Chargers took a 25-17 victory to move to 2-0 in the match over the Wolves. 

The final saw the Wolves hit in the positive for the first time in the match, as UWG had 11 kills with just five hitting errors. UAH countered with 13 kills, winning 25-19 to take the match. 

The Wolves will head to Montevallo, Alabama on Saturday to take on the Falcons, with UWG sitting a half game ahead of Montevallo in sixth place in the conference.
