West Georgia Sweeps Lee for First Home Win of the Season

CARROLLTON, Ga. – UWG volleyball came into today's contest with eight wins on the season, but zero of those wins coming at home. That changed Saturday afternoon as the Wolves swept the Lee Flames for their first home win of the season.

After struggling on Friday night against Shorter, the Wolves responded by posting their second highest hitting percentage of the season. UWG outhit Lee .250 to .111 in route to a clean 3-0 sweep over the Flames improving their record to 9-8 (3-4 GSC).

The first set started out with both teams trading blows until three straight attack errors from the Flames gave the Wolves a 7-4 lead. West Georgia slowly increased their lead until a service ace from Autumn Mayes capped off a 4-0 run to stretch UWG's lead to 18-10. Lee responded with a massive 8-1 run to cut the Wolves lead to one. With the score at 19-18, West Georgia used a 6-1 run anchored by Taylor Spradley to win the set 25-19.

The momentum from the first set carried over to the second as UWG jumped out to a 7-3 lead. Lee put a halt to the Wolves onslaught with a 6-3 run to cut West Georgia's lead down to 10-9. UWG completely took over the set with a huge 10-2 run extending their lead to 20-11. Lee tried to put together a run of their own in response until a kill from Tierra White ended the set with the Wolves on top 25-20.

The third set proved to be the most competitive set of the match as the two teams went back-and-forth knotting the score at 12-12 halfway through the set. Two kills from Caitlin Frazee and Tierra White sparked an 8-2 run for the Wolves to create some separation from the Flames. Lee threw their last punch of the match with a 9-4 run cutting the West Georgia lead to 24-23 until a service error from the Flames ended the set and the match.

Taylor Spradley led the Wolves in kills with 10 with Tierra White and Emilee Harris right behind her with eight. Autumn Mayes added 32 assists while Kaylyn Buchanan racked up three blocks. West Georgia will look to keep this momentum rolling as they head to Rome, GA for another showdown with the Shorter Hawks on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.
