West Georgia Falls to Lee in Gulf South Final

PENSACOLA, Fla. -  A magical run in the Gulf South Conference Tournament for UWG soccer ended with a 3-0 loss to Lee in the Championship Match on Sunday afternoon at Ashton Brosnaham Park in Pensacola.

Playing against undefeated and top-seeded Lee (19-0-0), the Wolves of West Georgia (9-8-2) fought hard in the final, but in the end couldn't stop the high-powered offense of the Flames.

The Wolves got off four shots on Sunday, putting two on target, while Lee took 11 total shots with six on target.

Lee wasted on time in getting on the board, scoring it's opening goal in the game's seventh minute. It came off the foot of Lauren Weimer and put the Flames up early.

In the 27th minutes, Lee added a second goal as Anna Lanter connected to give Lee a 2-0 lead.

Weimer, who was an All-Tournament selection, added a third goal for the Flames and her second of the match in the 74th minute.

Three Wolves were named All-Tournament with Hillary Resendiz, Janaisia Smith, and Chanceley Book earning spots on the team.

The loss ends what was a magical season as UWG won four of their last five to get in the tournament, then advanced on penalty kicks in the quarterfinals and semifinals which set up the first championship appearance in school history.

UWG finishes the season at 9-8-2. A pair of seniors played in their final matches for the Wolves on Saturday. Jazmine Santiago and Sadie Prince both finish their careers as top-10 goal scorers in school history.
