Volleyball Ends Five-Game Skid With Win over Lee

Box Score CARROLLTON, Ga. – UWG volleyball ended their five-game skid with a 3-0 sweep of the Lee Flames on Tuesday night.

West Georgia used solid defense to propel themselves over the Flames as the Wolves held Lee to a .154 hitting percentage on the night. The win moves UWG to 12-14 overall and 6-7 in the GSC on the season.

Wolves 25, Flames 18
The first set started with UWG winning the race to 10 with the Flames just three points behind. As the two teams began to find their footing in the match, the scoring went back-and-forth until a kill from Emilee Harris put the Wolves up 15-12 and forced a Lee timeout. Out of the timeout, West Georgia continued their consistent play, and used a 6-1 run to win the set 25-18.

Wolves 25, Flames 23
In the second set, West Georgia came out scorching hot as they blitzed the Flames by taking a 9-1 lead to begin the set. Lee found their rhythm and responded with a 14-5 run to take the lead for the first time in the set. Autumn Mayes put a halt to the Flames run with a kill and jumpstarted a 5-2 UWG run to put the Wolves back up 20-18. The two teams traded points all the way to the end until a kill from Taylor Spradley won the set for the Wolves 25-23.

Wolves 25, Flames 17
The third set started out similarly to how the second set ended, very competitively. UWG led 10-7 early in the set with five of those points coming from Emilee Harris and Kaylyn Buchanan. Midway through the set, West Georgia used a 5-1 run to create some breathing room from the Flames. The Wolves used the momentum from that run to pull away from Lee with Claire Conway ending the set and the match with a perfectly placed kill.

Emilee Harris recorded a team-high 10 kills with Kaylyn Buchanan behind her with 7 on a .353 hitting percentage. Autumn Mayes dished out 29 assists with Sydney Blackmon anchoring the back line with 19 digs and Buchanan dominating the net with 5 blocks. West Georgia will be back in action on Friday for a home matchup against Union with first serve set for 6 p.m.
