Volleyball Sweeps GSC Weekend

Box Score CARROLLTON, Ga. - UWG volleyball extended their winning streak to three and their home winning streak to five with a 3-0 sweep of the Christian Brothers Buccaneers on Saturday.

UWG used solid hitting to take down the Bucs in three sets as the Wolves accumulated a season-high .299 hitting percentage compared to a .093 hitting percentage for CBU. Today's sweep makes it three straight sweeps for UWG and improves their record to 14-14 overall and 8-7 in the GSC on the season.

Wolves 25, Bucs 10
The momentum from West Georgia's win against Union yesterday carried over to today as the Wolves came out sharp and took a 10-5 lead early. Christian Brothers would get a kill from their kill leader, Tia Rizvi, but the Bucs started to struggle with their attacks which led to a 17-9 West Georgia lead and forced a CBU timeout. Christian Brothers would get another kill from Rizvi, out of the timeout, but the Wolves wouldn't take their foot off the gas as they rattled off eight straight points to end the set.

Wolves 25, Bucs 14
The second set started much like how the first set ended with West Georgia ahead 10-4. The Wolves kept the pressure on the Bucs and wouldn't let them get close as the score read 15-6 in favor of UWG until CBU went on a 6-2 run to cut the West Georgia lead to five. The Wolves then responded with an 8-2 run sparked by a Caitlin Frazee kill to win the set, 25-14.

Wolves 25, Bucs 22
The third set was the most competitive set of the match as the two teams went back-and-forth and left the score knotted at 14 halfway through. With neither team able to pull away, Caitlin Frazee, Taylor Spradley, and Claire Conway contributed to a 5-0 UWG run to take the biggest lead of the set. Christian Brothers responded with a 6-2 run to tie the set at 20 and put the Wolves in jeopardy of losing their first set in three matches. An attack error from the Bucs sparked a 5-2 West Georgia run as Caitlin Frazee delivered the final blow with a perfectly placed kill to win the set and the match.

Caitlin Frazee recorded a team-high 10 kills with a .348 hitting percentage with Emilee Harris right behind her with nine kills of her own. Autumn Mayes dished out 31 assists while Claire Conway dominated the net with four blocks. West Georgia will be back in action next Saturday when they welcome Valdosta State to the Coliseum for a 2 p.m. matchup.
