Box Score CARROLLTON, Ga. - The return of regular season volleyball to The Coliseum was spoiled by the Auburn Montgomery Warhawks Tuesday as AUM handed UWG a 3-1 loss in the GSC Opener.
Sophomore Tierra White had another solid performance for the Wolves with 17 kills in the four-set loss, hitting above .400 for the match. But it wasn't enough to overcome the 4th-set hitting from the Warhawks, who committed just two errors in the final set.
AUM took the lead early in the match with a 25-20 victory in the opening set. The Warhawks made the most of their swings in the first set, scoring 20 points on kills to the Wolves' 10.
The Wolves came back in the second set after falling behind 4-1 early in the frame. UWG turned up the power, belting 16 kills en route to a 25-17 victory to tie the match at 1-1. On the defensive side, the Wolves limited AUM to just nine kills in the set.
West Georgia led for much of the third set, holding a 17-14 advantage when AUM went on a 4-0 run that changed the momentum of the match. The Warhawks finished that set on an 11-4 run to take a 2-1 lead in the match after a 25-21 win.
That momentum carried into the fourth set, as the Warhawks jumped to an 18-11 lead before finishing off the match with a 25-16 victory.
UWG falls to 6-4 on the year and 0-1 in GSC play while AUM moves to 8-5 and 1-0 against conference opponents.
West Georgia will be on the road this weekend, taking on Valdosta State on Friday and West Florida on Saturday.
