CARROLLTON, Ga. - The UWG Men's Basketball team will attempt to snap a three-game skid when they welcome the Delta State Statesmen to the Coliseum on Wednesday for a 5:30 p.m. tip.
West Georgia (4-9, 1-5 GSC) comes into Wednesday's matchup following an 69-65 loss to Christian Brothers on Sunday. Delta State (6-7, 5-2 GSC) is coming off a 72-66 win against Mississippi College on Sunday.
UWG is averaging 71.8 points per game on the year, good for ninth in the Gulf South Conference. The Wolves are giving up 73.9 points per game which is also good for ninth in the league. Delta State is averaging 69.8 points per game which ranks 10th in the conference while allowing 73.2 points per game which ranks eighth.
Guard Deng Nhial made his first start of the season in Sunday's loss to Christian Brothers. Nhial responded to the role change by putting together his best stat line of the season. In the game, Nhial recorded a season-high 12 points, three rebounds, and three assists in a season-high 33 minutes.
Forward Jalen Sasser recorded his second double-double of the season against CBU on Sunday. Sasser was very efficient from the floor as he shot 5-7 from the field and posted 12 points, 12 rebounds, and two blocks. Sunday marked the seventh time this season he's shot over 50% from the field.
The Statesmen are led by forwards Airen Brooks and Maalik Cartwright. Brooks leads Delta State in scoring with 15.2 points per game while also leading them in rebounding with 6.7 rebounds per game which sits him ninth in the conference in scoring and eighth in rebounding. Cartwright is a 6'6" forward who leads the Statesmen in assists with 3.4 a game and is second on the team in scoring with 13.3 points per game while shooting 55.7% from the field which also leads the team. Cartwright comes into Wednesday's matchup following a 19 point, seven rebound, five assist performance in Delta State's win over Mississippi College on Sunday.
Kelen Dietrich and Kasey Walker-Gregg are also averaging double digit points for Delta State. Dietrich is a 6'1" guard who is third on the team in scoring with 11.4 points per game. Dietrich gets most of his points from the three-point line as he's shooting 41% from three this year on 80 attempts. Walker-Gregg is a 6'0" guard who is averaging 11.2 points per game for the statesmen this year. In his last three games, Walker-Gregg is averaging 16.6 points per game on 64% shooting and 58% from three.
Tip-off for Wednesday's game is set for 5:30 p.m.
