CARROLLTON, Ga. - The University of West Georgia women's soccer team led their Sunday afternoon contest with the Montevallo Falcons for 89 minutes and 55 seconds, until a late penalty kick allowed the Falcons to even the match, ending the contest in a 1-1 draw at University Field.
In a game that saw six total cards, the last was a red card that forced the penalty kick with five ticks on the clock proved to be costly in the Wolves pursuit of victory.
Neither side did anything with their chances in the first half, leading to a 0-0 draw heading to the locker room. The Falcons (12-2-3, 8-2-3 GSC) outshot the Wolves (6-6-5, 4-4-5 GSC) by a seven to three margin while blanking West Georgia in the shots on goal category.

Catherine Reeves struck once again in the 69th minute on a great lead pass from Senior Hilary Resendiz, tucking it in the top left corner and putting the Wolves up 1-0 midway through the half.
All the way until the very last minute, the Wolves held the advantage, including two diving saves from Senior keeper
Chanceley Book.
As the PA announcer was counting down the final ten seconds, the referee blew his whistle and held a red card in the air, giving the Falcons one last chance to even the match.
Kaeri Ward took the attempt and buried it past a diving Book, knotting the match at one. The final seconds ticked away, and both teams walked away with one point on the afternoon.
With the draw from the Wolves and a 3-1 loss by the Alabama-Huntsville Chargers, West Georgia clinched a berth in the Gulf South Conference Tournament for the third consecutive year. The Wolves will play the winner of West Florida and Mississippi College on Sunday, October 30.
