Wolves Run Past North Greenville on Homecoming

CARROLLTON, Ga. - The West Georgia Wolves football team put together maybe their most complete game of the season on Saturday, giving the UWG faithful a 38-14 victory over North Greenville on Homecoming Saturday at Ra-Lin Field.

The Wolves had 462 yards of total offense, including 320 on the ground, on a night that saw West Georgia (5-2, 4-1 GSC) jump out to a 28-0 lead at the half.

"We played really, really well in the first half, and I hoped we were going to play that way in the second half, but we didn't," said head coach David Dean. "We made some mistakes, but we still had control of the game and we never let them back in, which is a positive."

The defense got the night started by forcing a turnover on North Greenville's (3-5, 2-4 GSC) opening possession as Xavier Robinson forced a fumble and the Wolves recovered and quickly capitalized. UWG drove down, punching it in on an 18-yard touchdown pass from Cameron Brown to Mykel Tubbs for the game's opening score.

After forcing a punt on the ensuing drive, the West Georgia offense took over and made it 14-0 as Brown found Rajaez Mosley on a 49-yard touchdown pass out of the backfield.

North Greenville then threatened to score points for the first time, driving inside the UWG 10-yard line before the defense made another great play as Jordan Clark picked off a Dylan Ramirez pass in the end zone.

"We're creating turnovers on defense right now, which is great," Dean added, "I hope that trend continues, and they're playing hard and they deserve those turnovers. Our pass rush is playing really well right now too, which is a big part of our defense."

Again, West Georgia would capitalize on the takeaway, driving 86 yards to pay dirt, scoring on a seven-yard rush from Ashaud Roberson.

Mosley would score the next UWG touchdown with 5:30 left in the second quarter, making it a 28-0 lead.

North Greenville would score the first points of the second half, but the Wolves would respond with another score from Mosley, who this time ran it in from nine-yards out to make it a 35-7 lead. Mosley would finish the game with 130 yards on 12 carriers with two touchdowns, while also catching the 49-yard touchdown pass.

"He's playing at a different level right now. He's playing with a lot of confidence and a lot of heart," Dean said of his junior running back who averaged 10.8 yards per carry in the win. "As a play caller, you fell good about giving him the ball because you know good things are going to happen."

NGU would add another touchdown early in the fourth quarter, and UWG's final points came on a 29-yard field goal by Tyler Davao's.

West Georgia rushed for over 300 yards for the first time since the 2019 season, and set a season-high in total offense. The Wolves had three rushers over 50 yards with Mosley's 130, 73 from JB Carlisle and Cameron Brown finishing with 64.

The defense was led by Deontae Overstreet with eight tackles while Xavier Robinson finished with seven and the forced fumble.

UWG is now 6-0 all-time against North Greenville. The Crusaders are the only team in UWG's history that the Wolves have played at least five times and never lost.

The Wolves now have a quick turnaround for next week as UWG is set to travel to Rome on Thursday, October 26 for a 7 p.m. kickoff at Shorter.
