Box Score CLEVELAND, Miss. – The UWG soccer team had the advantage in nearly every category except the final score on Sunday afternoon, falling 1-0 to Delta State in Cleveland, Mississippi.
West Georgia had 13 shots on the day, compared to just seven by the Lady Statesmen, and had a 9-1 advantage in corners. The Lady Statesmen, however, got a 62
nd minute goal that proved to be enough in a pivotal Gulf South Conference decision.
The first half saw both teams rattle off four shots, but neither team scored in the first 45 minutes.
In the second, West Georgia turned up the pressure with nine shots, while DSU had just three. It was Avery Allison who scored the game winner for Delta State.
Haley Brinkman made four saves in goal for the Wolves.
West Georgia is on the road again next weekend, traveling to Short on Friday and then to Lee on Sunday.
