Wolves Extend Winning Streak in Route of Golden Tigers

Three Wolves Leave the Yard in Epic Power Display at Cole Field

CARROLLTON, Ga. - The University of West Georgia Baseball team remained perfect in midweek action, and extended their winning streak to six games following a 12-1 victory in eight innings over the Tuskegee Golden Tigers on Tuesday afternoon.

After neither side got anything in the first, the Golden Tigers (5-13, 4-5 SIAC) drew first blood in the game after Harrison Barnes launched a solo home run in the top of the second giving them an early 1-0 lead.

In the Wolves (14-3, 7-2 GSC) half of the second, Edgar Cruz finally got the offense going, launching a home run over the left field fence to put the Wolves up 3-1 going into the third inning.

Jack Rasmussen, Brady Simpson, and Andrew Smith kept the Golden Tigers scoreless through the fifth, and the Wolves' bats finally woke back up in the bottom of the same inning. Cade Hohl led the inning off with a single, immediately followed by a Henry Daniels double. Calabro drew a walk in the next at bat, loading the bases for the reigning GSC Player of the Week, Logan Fink. The Kathleen native struck out, but Cooper Prince put the ball in play and reached on an error, bringing home two runs in the process, and sending us to the sixth with a 5-1 lead.

Ezra Brown worked his first inning of the season in the top of the sixth, sitting down the Golden Tigers in order, letting his offense go back to work. Charlie Tull and Cruz hit back-to-back singles to start the inning, Henry Daniels blasted his fourth home run of the season to left field, putting the Wolves up 8-1. Not to be outdone, Calabro decided to also leave the yard the very next at-bat, giving the Wolves a 9-1 lead into the seventh.

After another perfect inning from the Wolves on the mound, this time from Dominic Murgo, Anthony Calabro put the finishing touches on the midweek contest, blasting his second home run of the day, his ninth of the season, driving in three more runs and ending the contest an inning early by a final score of 12-1.

Calabro finished the night 3-4 at the plate with two home runs and four RBI's, and Charlie Tull and Henry Daniels added two hits apiece. The Wolves bullpen allowed just two hits and one run through eight innings on the mound, and Carson Crossley earned his first win of the season.

The Wolves are back in action on Friday as they travel to Valdosta State to take on the Blazers in a three game series. First pitch is set for 5:00 p.m. from Valdosta.
