CARROLLTON, Ga. - The UWG softball team dropped game one of this weekend's series, 9-1, to the Montevallo Falcons on Friday evening.
West Georgia (13-38, 8-20 GSC) had only four hits and walked nine batters on the day including two with the bases loaded as Montevallo (17-22, 11-14 GSC) pushed across nine runs on just seven hits.
Montevallo used a solo shot in the second to get on the board and then a three-run home run in the third powered a five-run inning to make it a 6-0 lead for the Falcons.
After the Wolves left them loaded in the third, the Falcons added a fourth inning run to stretch the lead to 7-0.
The Falcons got two more in the sixth to make it a 9-0 game and then UWG got their run in the bottom of the sixth as Hannah Hennessy reached on a walk in her pinch hit appearance, and after Zekylah Boyd reentered to run, she went first to third on a Madison Vandergriff single and forced a Montevallo error that allowed her to score.
Three of UWG's four hits came from the top third in the order while senior Carlie Monsour had the fourth. Montevallo scored six of their nine runs off of starter Katie Morris who was charged with the loss.
The Wolves and Falcons are back in action tomorrow at 1 p.m. for a doubleheader to conclude the series. UWG will honor its three seniors prior to the first pitch of game one.
