CARROLLTON, Ga. - The UWG women's soccer team returned home for the first time in nearly a month on Friday, but came up short in a 2-1 loss to West Alabama in Gulf South Conference play.
West Georgia (1-2-3, 1-1-1 GSC) fell behind 2-0 in the opening half, and cut the deficit in half in the second, but could not tie the game over multiple chances late in the period.
West Alabama (2-4-1, 2-1-0 GSC) wasted no time in getting on the board, scoring in the sixth minute and adding the second goal in the 39th minute.
The Wolves made adjustments at the break and early in the half got on the board thanks to freshman forward, Katherine Hagans. In the 53rd minute of the game, she created a solo opportunity against multiple opponents that found the back of the net.
The Wolves outshot the Tigers 8-2 in the second half, and 14-7 for the game. UWA had the advantage in corners, earning six to UWG's three.
UWG faces off against Alabama Huntsville at University Soccer Field on Sunday. The contest starts at 1 p.m.
