Wolves Fall on the Road at West Florida

PENSACOLA, Fla. - The West Georgia Wolves football team didn't have much go their way on Saturday night on the panhandle, as the Wolves fell to the seventh-ranked West Florida Argonauts, 49-21.

West Georgia (2-2, 1-1 GSC) allowed 49 points and gave up 479 yards of offense, and conversely had just 305 yards of offense, four turnovers, and didn't score an offensive touchdown until the game's final quarter.

Early on things looked good for the Wolves as the defense forced a three-and-out, and drove deep into West Florida territory before turning the ball over at the five-yard line. West Florida (3-1, 1-0 GSC) capitalized and drove all the way down the field and put the first points of the game up, and led 7-0.

After UWG punted to West Florida late in the opening quarter, Jeremy Smith returned a fumble 28 yards for a touchdown to tie things up at 7-7.

From there, it was all Argos as UWF scored 28 unanswered points before the break, and then added two more third quarter scores to eventually lead 49-7 after three quarters.

In the fourth quarter, JB Carlisle found the end zone to cut into the deficit, breaking in from the five-yard line to cap an eight-play, 94-yard drive. On UWG's next drive, the Wolves took over at the UWF 33-yard line on a shanked punt, and Ben Whitlock found TJ Lockley on the first play to account for the game's final touchdown.

Terrill Cole and Zay Britt each finished with over 60 yards receiving, with Britt leading the way with 62. Rajaez Mosley led UWG in rushing with 51 yards.

Defensively, Jordan Clark and Xavier Robinson led the way with six tackles each. Along with Smith's scoop and score, Festus Davies also recovered a fumble for the Wolves.

UWG will have a bye week next week before returning home on October 7 to host West Alabama at 6 p.m.
