#13 Wolves Dominate Falcons at Home for Sixth Straight Win

CARROLLTON, Ga. - The University of West Georgia Men's Basketball team extended their winning streak to six with a 97-71 win over the Montevallo Falcons on Saturday.

West Georgia (15-2, 11-2 GSC) turned in a complete performance as they shot 56.9% from the field and 50% from three while holding Montevallo (7-11, 6-8 GSC) to 37.7% from the floor and 27.8% from three.

"This was a good team win," said head coach Dave Moore. "We had multiple guys score in double figures and then had another three players with seven points so we did a good job. Cameron Glover was tough to deal with but they shot 37% from the field and 27% from three and that was the difference in the game."

Montevallo took a 10-6 lead to begin, but that lead would be short lived as a layup from Kolten Griffin sparked a 20-2 West Georgia run, giving the Wolves a 26-12 lead midway through the period. Already up 14, UWG's Marlon Smith got hot, burying three threes in the half which helped keep West Georgia at a comfortable distance from Montevallo until the Falcons' Cameron Glover got Montevallo back in the game with a handful of buckets. Glover's scoring outburst got the Falcons back within seven before the Wolves ended the half on a 10-2 run, taking a 15-point lead into the break.

West Georgia shot 54.5% from the floor and 46.7% from three in the period while holding Montevallo to 39.4% from the field and 35.3% from three.

It was much of the same for UWG in the second half, with Amari Davis getting things started with a layup. Baskets from Camron Donatlan and Davis helped the Wolves maintain a healthy lead eight minutes into the half before Zawdie Jackson exploded from three and Marlon Smith continued his three-point barrage. Jackson and Smith combined for 15 points on three made threes in the next six minutes, propelling West Georgia to a 79-64 lead. The junior point guard went on to hit three more threes for the remainder of the game, leading the Wolves to a 97-71 win.

Jackson led the way with 26 points and nine assists on 8-12 shooting and 7-8 from three, while Smith recorded 18 points on four made threes off the bench. Donatlan filled up the stat sheet with 14 points, five rebounds, five assists, three blocks, and two steals.

"The way for Montevallo to get back in the game, in the second half, was from the three-point line and we did a good job of defending them," coach Moore continued. "They made four threes on 21% in the half so we did enough in terms of defending shots."

West Georgia will be back in action on Wednesday when they welcome the Christian Brothers Buccaneers to the Coliseum for a 7:30 p.m. matchup.
