Carrollton, GA- The UWG women's basketball team lost in a heartbreaker at the end of regulation on Saturday, falling to the Montevallo Falcons at home, 66-63, in Gulf South Conference play.

The game went down to the wire throughout the contest with there being seven lead changes through the closing minutes of the game. West Georgia (10-7,6-7) lost in the final seconds of the game by a game winning three-pointer shot at the buzzer giving Montevallo (11-6, 9-5) the victory.

Though the Wolves struggled offensively in the first quarter, shooting under 30 percent, they ended up leading 16-9 after one. In the second quarter, the Wolves built as much as a 15-point lead, but Montevallo began to heat up, eventually cutting it to a one-point deficit at 28-27 at the break.

In the third, Montevallo outscored the Wolves 24-18, and led by five at the end of the quarter, and then made the advantage double-digits early in the fourth quarter.

West Georgia then went to work on the deficit, chipping away, and eventually jumping back in front 61-60 on a K'Nari Holliday layup with 1:46 left in the game.

Calie Thrower put UWG up by three at the free throw line and then Marisa Snodgrass hit a big three for Montevallo to tie things up. With the shot clock turned off, UWG had a chance for a win late, but couldn't convert, leaving 1.3 seconds. Cali Smallwood played hero for the Falcons as her deep three won the game for Montevallo.

Freshman Sydne Tolbert, who made her first career start, was the leading scorer with 14 points while Jada Powell had 11 points and 12 rebounds to record her sixth double-double of the season.

West Georgia is back in action on Wednesday January 24th as they play host to the Christian Brothers Buccaneers. Tip off is set for 5:30 p.m.
