RICHMOND, Ky. - The University of West Georgia women's soccer team fell short in a 1-0 Atlantic Sun Conference loss to Eastern Kentucky on the road Thursday evening.
The first half saw limited action, with EKU holding most of the possessions and taking the majority of shots. In the 34th minute, it appeared the Wolves had a promising play that might end in a goal, but EKU's goalkeeper made an impressive save. Both teams went into halftime with no goals on the board.
In the second half, UWG came back with increased possession, looking poised to take the lead. However, in the 55th minute, EKU broke through UWG's defense and found the back of the net. Freshman Ella Grode scored her fourth goal of the season, securing a 1-0 victory for EKU.
While UWG led in shots over EKU in the second half, they couldn't find the equalizer, dropping their third consecutive game.
Hannah Garrett made five saves in the loss while Aleyshka Orellano led UWG's offense with three shots.
The Wolves now travel to Louisville, Ky., to face Bellarmine on Sunday, October 13, with kickoff set for 1:00 p.m.
