CARROLLTON, Ga. - The University of West Georgia Volleyball team dropped their final match of the season to the Lipscomb Bisons on Saturday at The Coliseum.
West Georgia (9-19, 2-14) struggled to contain the Lipscomb (17-10, 14-2) offense led by Courtney Jones with 17 kills on a .438 hitting percentage.
The Bisons of Lipscomb got out to a fast start in the first set with an early 6-1 lead. The Wolves would try to formulate their own momentum with two kills from
Sanai Young but it wouldn't be enough to slow down the Bison as they would take the first set, 25-10.
The second set would start out as a back and forth battle with both teams having crucial runs with multiple lead changes. Lipscomb would eventually take control of the set by going on a 5-1 run in the final stretch. This allowed the Bison to secure a 25-17 win and take a 2-0 lead in the match.
West Georgia would try to prevent the sweep as they kept it close for majority of the set, but Lipscomb would outlast the Wolves in the third to get a 25-16 win. This would complete the sweep and end the Wolves inaugural Division I season with a heartbreaking loss.
Offensively, West Georgia was led by
Sanai Young and
Rylee Henderson with five kills each. On the defensive side of the net,
Victoria Schmer led the team with six digs.
The Wolves end their 2024 season with a record of 9-19.
