Holliday's 18 Leads Wolves Past West Alabama, 57-43

LIVINGSTON, Ala. -  An 18 point performance from K'Nari Holliday was a key factor on Wednesday evening as the UWG women's basketball team got back to their winning ways with a much needed, 57-43 Gulf South Conference victory over West Alabama.

West Georgia (13-10, 9-10 GSC) shot 50 percent from the floor in the win, defeating West Alabama (5-19,4-16) , snapping a two-game road losing streak an completing a season sweep over the Tigers.

Beyond Holliday's 18 points, Zuriyah Davis was second in scoring with 14 while the leading rebounder for the Wolves was Jada Powell with 10.

Holliday's paint presence was a big part of UWG's dominance in the paint as the Wolves had a 46-14 advantage in the paint, including a double-digit performance from forward Aliyah Washington with 10 points.

The Wolves opened the game shooting 47 percent in the first quarter, and they were stingy on the defensive end, allowing the Tigers to just 33 percent shooting. That trend would continue in the second quarter with the Wolves allowing the Tigers to shoot just 31 percent, and leading by six at the halftime break.

At the beginning of the second half, the Wolves defensive intensity continued, forcing the Tigers into turnovers. For the game, UWA would turn it over 19 times, leading to 14 West Georgia points on the other end.

The Wolves finished the third quarter going on a 8-0 run, and led 43-29, and extended the lead to 47-29 out of the quarter break.

West Alabama would make a final push at the end, but it was too late as the Wolves earned the road win.

Katelyn Dunning led the Wolves in assists with five while Mykah Anderson's five steals led the Wolves' defensive efforts.

The Wolves will be back in action this Saturday as they play host to Alabama Huntsville at the Coliseum at 2:00p.m.
