Holliday’s Double-Double Propels Wolves over Hawks, 73-64

CARROLLTON, Ga. - The University of West Georgia Women's Basketball team protected their home court on Saturday, by defeating the Shorter Hawks, 73-64, in The Coliseum.

K'Nari Holliday's monster 24-point, 11-rebound double-double off the bench led West Georgia (15-11, 11-11 GSC) to their nine-point victory over Shorter (2-24, 1-21 GSC), moving the Wolves to 11 conference wins in the season.

As soon as the ball was tipped, the Hawks went to work on the offensive end as they began the game 11-12 from the field, resulting in a 22–17 deficit for the Wolves. While UWG allowed Shorter to shoot 73 percent from the floor in the first quarter, West Georgia hung with them as back-to-back baskets from Holliday put the score at 24-21 in favor of the Hawks at the end of the quarter.

In the second, the Wolves clamped down on the defensive side of the ball, holding the Hawks to 40 percent from the field and 25 percent from three. Off the strength of their defense, West Georgia took their first lead of the night at 4:03 mark of the second quarter courtesy of a three from Zuriyah Davis. From there on out the game saw three lead changes and two ties as UWG took a 41-40 lead into the break.

The Wolves put together another masterful defensive performance in the third quarter as they held the Hawks to 30.8 percent from the floor. Holliday got West Georgia going on the offensive end with a layup before a basket from Jada Powell sparked an 11-2 run, giving UWG their largest lead of the night at 54-42. Shorter responded with an 8-3 run, cutting the Wolves lead to 57-50 as we went into the fourth.

Shorter got West Georgia's lead down to five in the fourth before Holliday took over, scoring 11 of her 24 points in the quarter which propelled UWG to their 73-64 win.

Holliday recorded her 24-point, 11-rebound double-double in just 22 minutes while Powell added seven points and nine rebounds.

West Georgia will be back in action when they welcome Mississippi College to The Coliseum for a 5:30 p.m. matchup.
