CARROLLTON, Ga. - The University of West Georgia Men's Basketball clinched sole possession of a GSC regular season title on Wednesday after a 94-80 win over the Mississippi College Choctaws on Wednesday night.
#13 UWG (23-4, 19-4 GSC) had one of their best offensive performances of the season in their 14-point Senior Night win over Mississippi College (13-15, 12-12 GSC) as the Wolves shot 54 percent from the field and 46 percent from three. Tonight's win moves West Georgia to a perfect 14-0 at home, making this the first season since 1998-99 that UWG has ended the regular season undefeated at home.

Dave Moore. " Everybody remembers their Senior Day and I'm just so glad that Cam, Cole, and Amari got to experience winning a GSC Regular Season Title on Senior Night. I'm just proud of the guys. It's a great moment for them and their families are here, making it a Senior Day they'll never forget."
West Georgia got off to a slow offensive start, beginning the game 3-10 from the field which led to an 11-7 lead for Mississippi College, five minutes in.
Zawdie Jackson got the Wolves going, by scoring nine of UWG's next 11 points, propelling West Georgia to a four-point lead at the halfway point of the period. After Jackson's offensive outburst,
Marlon Smith and
Tamaury Releford gave the Wolves that bench lift just as they've been doing all season long, scoring a combined 14 points and leading West Georgia to a 43-26 lead at the break.
UWG shot 44.4 percent from the field in the period while holding Mississippi College to 30 percent from the floor.
The Wolves got to work right out of the locker room as they extended their lead to 20, five minutes in, after buckets from
Cole Fisher and
Kolten Griffin. Up 56-36, West Georgia continued to pour it on, getting their lead up to as much as 25 after baskets from Smith and Jackson. Releford continued to play excellent basketball in the second half as he finished with 12 points and nine rebounds in the game while Griffin scored 10 of 13 points in the period, leading the Wolves to a 94-80 win.
"These last two years we've really buckled down at home and made this a tough place to play," coach Moore continued. "This team has certainly done that. We've played our best basketball at home and its going to be nice to be back in The Coliseum for the Quarterfinal on Tuesday."Â
Jackson finished with 21 points, four assists, three steals while Smith recorded 16 points and five rebounds. Donatlan finished with 15 points, eight rebounds, and six assists.
West Georgia will end the 2023-24 regular season on Saturday when they travel to Cleveland, Mississippi for a 5:00 p.m. matchup against Delta State.
