Road Struggles Continue in Setback Against FGCU

FORT MYERS, Fla.-  The University of West Georgia (3-12-1, 1-5-1)  faced a tough challenge on Thursday night, falling 6–0 to Florida Gulf Coast (9-4-2, 6-1-1) in ASUN action at the FGCU Soccer Complex.

The match opened at a blistering pace as FGCU's Maya Henley Buisan found the net just 17 seconds into the contest to set the tone early. The Eagles continued their relentless attack throughout the first half, adding two more goals before the break. Kendal Gargiula would double the lead in the 16th minute off a pass from Erika Zschuppe, and Lexie Bennett made the score 3–0 in the 33rd minute of play.

Despite the early deficit, West Georgia continued to push forward, led by offensive efforts from Sophomore Campbell Taylor, who recorded a pair of shots on goal on three shot attempts. Freshman Kaylen Brown added another shot on target on her only attempt. 

In the second half, the Eagles extended their advantage behind their midfielder Erika Zschuppe, who scored her 18th goal of the season in the 62nd minute, assisted by Megan Morgan. The goal marked Zschuppe's eighth consecutive match with a goal. FGCU added two more goals from Keira Morgan, assisted by Lyla Bell, and Sophia Holtzman, assisted by Keira Morgan to close out the match.

Freshman goalkeeper Emily Sanabria recorded four saves in the first half, bringing her season total to 92, which moves her into the top five for most saves in a single season in UWG program history. Siani Jones entered at halftime and recorded four saves, her highest total in a match since the season opener against Jacksonville State on August 14, 2025.

The Wolves will travel to Stetson on Sunday for their final road match of the season, with kickoff set for 1 p.m. West Georgia will look to earn their first road victory of the season behind the continued growth of their young roster.
