Friday Home Match Results in 3-0 UWG loss

CARROLLTON, Ga. - The West Georgia volleyball team fell 3-0 to North Alabama tonight in The Coliseum.

UWG (2-18, 0-7 ASUN) continues its search for the first conference win of the season after dropping its third home match of the year to UNA (11-9, 5-2 ASUN), pushing the Lions' winning streak to three.

For the first time since the Georgia State Invitational, outside hitter Molly Brunell led the team with a UWG-high eight points and eight kills. Right side hitter Marley Staats posted a season-high six digs.

MATCH DETAILS
Fueled by a combination of UWG attack errors and Lion kills, the visitors from Alabama opened the first set jumping out to a 9-3 lead, and did not look back. Tallying points off a pair of kills by both Grace-Blythe Cornett and Rylee Henderson, UWG put together some clean volleys in front of the home crowd, but could not dig themselves out of the deficit. UNA took set one, 25-16.

Kicking things off with back-to-back kills from Cornett, the Wolves took an early 5-1 advantage to jump-start the second set. With UWG holding a tight four-point lead, UNA had to fight for every point they got, but they began to convert off UWG errors. By the time the Wolves reached ten, UNA was just behind with seven. Going on a 5-2 run fueled by kill after kill, the visitors knotted the match at 12-12 and held all of the momentum. With the Wolves securing points by outlasting the Lions in long volleys, UWG stayed within striking distance, down 21-17. Sadly, North Alabama finished with a 4-2 run to secure a 25-19 set two win.

Like the first set, West Georgia fell behind 7-3 before they could find their footing in the finale. Settling in, the Pack closed the gap to 10-8 by tallying points off of kills by a variety of Wolves. With Brunell leading the way with three kills in the set, UWG stayed on the Lions' tails, down 15-12. Unfortunately, the West Georgia offense stalled here, resulting in the visitors going on a 10-3 run to earn a 25-15 win over UWG.
