West Georgia Falls to Third-Ranked Texans in Stephenville

STEPHENVILLE, Tex. - The UWG football team fell on the road on Saturday night to the #3 Tarleton State Texans, 45-10.

West Georgia (5-3, 2-3 UAC) was bit by the turnover bug as the Wolves threw a pair of interceptions, fumbled twice, and had a punt blocked on a night where Tarleton State (8-0, 4-0 UAC) racked up 520 yards of offense.

Tarleton State drove it fast on their first drive, punching it in on a two-yard rush to cap an eight-play, 75-yard drive.

The teams then traded interceptions as Kasyus Kurns picked off Wydner and then Kyeaure Magloire picked off Victor Gabalis on the second play following the Texans' takeaway.

After trading punts, the Texans got a second takeaway as a big hit forced a fumble, and Tarleton State jumped on the loose ball. The Texans took advantage, scoring five plays later on the first play of the second quarter to push their advantage to 14-0.

On West Georgia's next possession, the Wolves picked up three first downs before being forced to punt. Tarleton State blocked Reilly Mason's punt attempt and took over on downs. The Texans took advantage once again, scoring in four plays to go up three scores at 21-0 with 7:43 left in the half.

As time expired, Tarleton State booted through a 33-yard field goal to make the Texans' halftime lead sit at 24-0.

UWG scored first in the second half with the defense forcing a punt after the Texans used an onside kick to get their offense on the field to start the third. The Wolves then drove 59 yards on 13 plays, with Wydner using his legs to convert two third down conversions on the drive. The points came in the form of a 52-yard field goal from Simon Zeidan, making it 24-3, Texans with 6:24 remaining in the third.

Tarleton State quickly found the endzone on their ensuing possession, putting them up 31-3 at the 5:15 mark of the period.

West Georgia scored their only touchdown of the game at the 11:06 mark of the fourth quarter as Wydner connected with Latrelle Murrell for a 21-yard touchdown pass.

On the opening play of Tarleton State's ensuing possession the Texans scored on a 75-yard touchdown pass to put the score at 38-10. The Texans scored once more with 2:33 to go to account for the final score.

Offensively, UWG had their lowest total of the season at just 219 yards.

The UWG defense had an effective pass rush on the night, however, tying a season-high with five sacks.

West Georgia returns home next week for Homecoming as the Wolves host Central Arkansas at University Stadium. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 25.

NOTABLE NUMBERS
- Magloire's interception in the first quarter secured UWG's streak of at least one takeaway in every game this season.
- It was the first game since 2021 in which UWG has had a punt blocked.
- Zeidan's 52-yard field goal was the second longest field goal in UWG football history, behind a 54-yarder from Adi Brkic in 2005. Zeidan now has two 50-plus yard field goals as a freshman in 2025.
