Season Concludes with Draw Against North Florida

CARROLLTON, Ga.- The University of West Georgia saw their 2025 season come to a close on Saturday at University Soccer Field with a 1-1 draw against North Florida. This marked the second consecutive year the Wolves ended their regular season with a tie, following a similar 1-1 result against Queens in 2024.

Heading into the final match, UWG needed to secure more points than Queens to clinch a spot in the ASUN Tournament. However, a draw between Queens and Jacksonville meant both teams finished with eight points in the conference, with Queens advancing based on the tiebreaker. As a result, the Wolves fell just short of a postseason berth.

North Florida controlled possession early, firing off 14 shots in the first half compared to just one for the Wolves. Despite the Ospreys' offensive pressure, UWG freshman goalkeeper Emily Sanabria put forth a standout performance, recording six saves in the first half and ending the match with 13 total saves.

Her performance marked the most saves in a game since her 14-save outing against Georgia State on August 21. Sanabria finishes the season with 116 total saves, placing her third all-time in program history for saves in a season, and second for a freshman, only behind Jackie Donaldson's 121 saves in 2018.

The lone goal of the match came early in the second half. North Florida's Zoe Looker put her team ahead in the 48th minute, converting a header off a corner kick from Chloe Lynch. Looker's goal was her second of the season, while Lynch earned her third assist.

The Wolves responded in the 80th minute when Noemi Casique scored the equalizer after a well-placed pass from Aleyshka Orellano. Casique's goal, her fourth of the season, was essential, keeping UWG's postseason hopes alive. Casique finishes the season as the team's leading scorer, with goals against Jacksonville State and Queens earlier in the year.

The Wolves produced few offensive opportunities, and West Georgia registered just five shots in the match, with three on target. Campbell Taylor and Rachel Higgins each produced quality shots, but were unable to break through North Florida's defense.

The match concluded in a 1-1 draw, officially eliminating the Wolves from postseason contention.
