Georgia Tech Overpowers Wolves in Atlanta

ATLANTA, Ga. - UWG men's basketball fell 82-66 to Georgia Tech today (Nov. 23) in Atlanta.

After leading for the majority of the first half, the Wolves' (4-3) second period three-point shooting woes combined with GT (5-1) hitting at 70 percent from the field, led to the hosts overpowering the Pack late to take the win and stay perfect at home.

As a team, the Wolves finished shooting 39 percent from the field and 28 percent from three. Georgia Tech shot 54 percent from the field and 29 percent from three.

Shelton Williams-Dryden's 21 points led the way for the Wolves, while the Yellow Jackets were led by Kowacie Reeves Jr. with 18.

"I'm proud of the fight. I'm proud of the battle," said head coach Dave Moore. "They (GT) played a really good second half. They really attacked us in the paint. I think they scored 52 in the paint. We just gave up too many easy points in the second half. We also need to do better hitting our shots. These games are difficult but we need our shot making in order to be in this game."

Today's road game against the Yellow Jackets opened with the Pack jumping out to an 8-5 lead thanks to Josh Smith and Williams-Dryden both knocking down shots from deep.

Capitalizing off of a handful of early UWG turnovers, Georgia Tech took an 11-8 advantage, but the Wolves continued to battle.

Before the hosts could run away with it, Malcolm Noel drained back-to-back three-pointers to push the Wolves back out in front 18-15 with under 12 minutes remaining in the half.

Fueled by Williams-Dryden's 11 points, UWG extended its lead to 24-18 before the eight-minute media timeout.

With Georgia Tech's Kowacie Reeves Jr. finishing an acrobatic layup and then knocking down a shot from beyond the arc, the Yellow Jackets locked the game at 24-24.

The teams traded leads the rest of the half, with neither creating more than a few points of separation. At the break, West Georgia led 34-33 thanks to Noel knocking down his third three-pointer of the period to give the Pack a slight edge.

GT opened the second half on a 11-4 run to jump out in front 44-38 by the first media timeout.

Responding with a 6-0 run, highlighted by a UWG steal turned score, the Wolves were able to fight their way back to being down just 48-47 with under 13 minutes to play.

With West Georgia going cold for three minutes, GT was able to create a 59-50 advantage.

Coming out of the cold spell, Chas Lewless knocked down a three and Kenneth Chime hit a free throw to cut the Wolves' deficit down to 59-54 with 10 minutes to play.

Following these scores, the UWG offense began to stall again, resulting in the hosts jumping back out to a nine point lead, up 63-54.

West Georgia continued to fight, but the Yellow Jackets were just too much to keep pace with today. UWG fell 82-66.

The Wolves take a Thanksgiving break before going on the road to face off against Troy on December 1.
