UWG Falls to Oregon on the Road to Open 2025-26 Campaign

EUGENE, Ore. - The 2025-26 UWG women's basketball season got underway on Monday night, with the Wolves falling to the Oregon Ducks, 100-59 at Matthew Knight Arena.

Playing 2,600-plus miles from Carrollton, West Georgia (0-1) fell behind early to Big Ten opponent Oregon (1-0), but played admirably in the second half, finishing the game making nine of their last 11 shots.

The Wolves were behind 35 at the half, but were only outscored by six points in the final two quarters.

Senior Jasmine Jones led UWG and all scorers with 19 points on 6-of-10 shooting while pouring in four three pointers and going a perfect 3-for-3 from the charity stripe. The Wolves also got double-figures from Asia Donald with 17 and Sydne Tolbert with 11.

The length of the Ducks created trouble for the UWG offense early as Oregon forced 11 first quarter turnovers. Asia Donald got off to a good start in her UWG career, scoring seven of the Wolves' first 10 points.

It was all Oregon in quarter number two as the Ducks extended their lead to 35 at 48-13 at the halftime break.

UWG's offense found a better rhythm in the third quarter, shooting 50 percent from the field and 6-of-7 from the free throw line. Junior guard Sydne Tolbert was a big part of the increased offensive production as she scored nine points in the period. Oregon remained hot offensively, however, scoring 23 points and leading 71-30 after three.

Both teams scored 29 points in the final quarter with Jones scoring 11 of her 19 in the final 10 minutes.

The Wolves, who had 21 turnovers in the first half, settled in and only committed 11 turnover in the second half.

UWG was led on the glass by Tayah Morgan with seven rebounds. As a team, UWG grabbed 32 rebounds to the Ducks' 38.

West Georgia finished the contest shooting 41.9 percent from the field and connecting on eight three pointers at a 42.1 percent clip from distance.

Next up for the Wolves is their home opener as UWG will make the cross-country trek home to host Gardner-Webb on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. from The Coliseum.
