Weekend Action Results in Home Loss

CARROLLTON, Ga. - West Georgia men's basketball was handed its first home loss of the season today (Dec.6), falling to the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles 87-59.

With UWG (5-4) hitting at a 30 percent field goal clip in the second half and TTU (4-6) knocking it down at 62 percent, the Golden Eagles flew away with a win to even up the season's series at one apiece. The Wolves' all-time series lead now sits at 3-2.

The Pack was led by Josh Smith with 17 points, shooting 60 percent (6-10) from the field, 67 percent (2-3) from three and 75 percent (3-4) from the line. TTU was led by Dani Pounds with 21 points.

"We didn't have enough urgency today. It was certainly reflected in points in the paint," said head coach Dave Moore in the post game press conference. "48-20, minus 28. That's the game." The full post game press conference can be viewed at the bottom of the page.

The Saturday home clash kicked off with TTU jumping out to a 10-3 advantage after the Wolves opened shooting 1-for-4 from the field.

With Shelton Williams-Dryden knocking down a three and then a 15-foot jumper, UWG was right back in it, down 10-8.

Both teams continued to hover around 50 percent shooting, resulting in the visitors holding a tight 19-15 lead over the Wolves by the 12-minute media timeout was called.

Coming off the bench, Josh Smith hit a pair of three-pointers and a mid-range jumper to put the Wolves up 25-23 before the next media break.

After pushing out to a 29-25 advantage, the Pack's offense began to stall. TTU finished the half on a 13-2 run, resulting in the Golden Eagles holding a 38-33 lead at the break. Smith's 12 points pushed the pace for UWG.

Similar to how the Pack opened the game, West Georgia started the second period shooting 2-for-9 from the field, allowing the visitors to extend its lead to 46-38 by the 16-minute mark.

With UWG continuing to hit its shots at a 20 percent rate and TTU knocking it down at 42 percent, the Golden Eagles lead ballooned to 53-42 by the next media timeout.

Tennessee Tech continued to run away with it as the Wolves could not get any offensive spark. TTU found themselves up 70-46 with seven minutes remaining.

TTU went on to win 87-59.

UWG continues its three-game homestead hosting Georgia Southern next Saturday at 7 p.m.
