Sims and Bizette Power Wolves to Game Two Win over Gardner-Webb

UWG Opens Division I Play 2-0

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - Dixiana Sims and Blaire Bizette highlighted game two of opening weekend at the Runin' Bulldog Classic on Friday as the Wolves swept the day, winning the second game 4-2 over the host Gardner-Webb.

Sims went the distance in her debut while Bizette, showed why she was an All-Conference pick a season ago, driving in all four runs for the Wolves. The New Roads, Louisiana native went 4-for-4 with all four RBIs while Sims struck out six while allowing two runs on four hits.

The Wolves, who won the season opener 15-1 over Drexel for their first Division I win in program history,  stayed hot in the first, scoring in their sixth consecutive inning of the day. It started on a Kristen Fowler triple that was immediately followed by an RBI single from Bizette.

Sims then blanked the Runnin' Bulldogs for four innings, and didn't allow a hit through the first three before the UWG offense gave her another run to work with in the fifth. It was Bizette again, driving in Jacelyn Lahr who was on as a pinch runner after working a leadoff walk.

Gardner-Webb would push through and get their first run of their season in the fifth on a leadoff walk followed by a stolen base, a single, and a fielder's choice.

An error and a double in the gap helped GWU tie it up in the sixth, setting the stage for Bizette to do her thing once again in the seventh.

Shelby Garrett got a leadoff single to start the seventh and then Sims beat out a sac bunt attempt to start the rally. After another sac moved runners up, Bizette delivered with two outs, singling home both runs to make it a 4-2 game.

Sims finished off the victory by pitching around an infield single in the seventh.

Fowler, Garrett, and Sims each had a hit to combine with Bizette to give UWG seven for the game.

NOTABLE NUMBERS
- Bizette now has three four-RBI games under her belt during her UWG career. It was the seventh time she has driven in at least three.
- West Georgia softball hasn't started a season 2-0 since 2019, and did it today to open their first season as a Division I program.
