CARROLLTON, Ga. – Head coach
Dave Moore announced today that Micah Smith will be joining the West Georgia basketball team, marking the first transfer of the 2025 class.
Smith, a 6'7" sophomore forward hailing from Tyrone, Georgia, spent his freshman season (2024-25) competing for the Georgia Southern University Eagles.
Coach Moore had this to say about the big-time commitment, "We are really excited to add Micah Smith! He is a long 6'7 combo forward with tremendous upside potential. He had a great HS career at Sandy Creek winning 2 GA State Championships. He also gained valuable D1 experience as a freshman at Georgia Southern in a very tough Sun Belt Conference. We are excited to help Micah take the next step in his college career and expect him to make an immediate impact in the ASUN!"
In the 2024-25 season at GSU, the freshman forward averaged 3.4 points, 1.9 rebounds and racked up 15 assists, 10 blocks and nine steals in 21 appearances with four starts.
Some of Smith's rookie season highlights include a seven-point and six-rebound performance at William and Mary, a season-high 10-point performance against Louisiana Monroe and a personal-best four-block night at Winthrop.
A three-time 3A Georgia Player of the Year, Smith scored over 1000 points and won two State Championships at Sandy Creek High School. Rated as a three-star prospect, the big man ranked 155th nationally and 34th among power forwards in the class of 2024 by 247Sports. He was also tabbed at the 14th-best player in the state of Georgia.
