Wolves Suffer Loss to Jacksonville in Florida

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - West Georgia men's basketball was handed its first ASUN loss of the season today, falling 75-43 to Jacksonville on the road.

Fueled by six opening half three-pointers on 75 percent shooting, JU (6-12, 1-3 ASUN) pushed out to a 40-23 advantage over UWG (9-6, 3-1 ASUN) by the halftime break and never looked back, going on to snap their six-game losing streak.

The Wolves were led by guard Josh Smith with 12 points while shooting 29 percent (2-7) from the field. Jacksonville's Chris Lockett led the Dolphins with 18 points on 86 percent (6-7) shooting.

"We were disappointing today at Jax. JU was really good today and we weren't very good at all. Execution and effort wasn't good enough," said head coach Dave Moore following the loss. "We have to learn from it and bounce back next week."

Powered by three made buckets from beyond the arc, the Dolphins opened today's ASUN action jumping out to a 13-2 advantage.

By the first media timeout, JU held a 15-4 lead fueled by 6-for-7 (86 percent) field goal shooting.

Even with the Wolves' offense settling in to knock down five of its opening eight shots (63 percent), JU continued to keep an arm's-length lead. At the 12-minute mark, the hosts held a 22-13 advantage.

Tallying an early nine points from the bench, the Wolves were able to cut the deficit down to seven, but Jacksonville responded by hitting back-to-back three pointers to push back out in front by double-digits. With under four minutes remaining in the half, JU led 34-19 while shooting 6-for-7 (86 percent) from three.

Heading into the break, UWG trailed 40-23. Four different Wolves tallied four points in the opening period.

With both teams trading buckets, West Georgia was unable to cut into the JU advantage. By the time the game reached the 12-minute mark, the hosts held a 53-30 lead.

Continuing to hover around 50 percent shooting while the Wolves were hitting at a 30 percent rate, JU cruised to a 75-43 victory over the Pack.

The Wolves continue its four-game conference road swing, taking on Stetson next Thursday (Jan. 15) in DeLand, Florida.
