Wolves Fall to Sugar Bears in Conway

CONWAY, Ark- The West Georgia Wolves Women's Basketball team fell short in Wednesday's matchup in Conway, 87-66.

After a tightly contested opening quarter, UWG (12-6, 5-2 ASUN) fell on the road to Central Arkansas (11-8, 4-3 ASUN), marking their first loss in five games.

The opening quarter saw efficient shooting from both sides, as each team shot 50 percent from the field. Central Arkansas held a slim 11-10 advantage at the first media timeout, then closed the quarter on a 9-1 run to build a nine-point lead heading into the second quarter.

Central Arkansas opened the second quarter with back-to-back baskets to extend its lead to 13 before Grace O'Gara answered with a three-pointer to cut the deficit to 24-14. The Wolves found a late offensive surge behind Destiny Jones, who totaled six points, six rebounds, and a block in the first half, but the Sugar Bears responded in the closing minutes to stretch their advantage to 37-24 at the break.

Sydne Tolbert provided an offensive spark in the third quarter, scoring 10 of her 17 points on the night while not missing a shot in the first seven minutes of the period. Central Arkansas would maintain control throughout the quarter and carry a 61-47 advantage into the fourth.

UWG showed early promise in the fourth quarter when Jasmine Jones buried a three to cut the margin to 11, but Central Arkansas would regain control and would go on 17-7 run. The Sugar Bears would stretch the lead to 78-54 and never look back, closing out an 87-66 win over the Wolves.

Sydne Tolbert and Jasmine Jones each finished with 17 points and Grace O'Gara had 11.

West Georgia will be back in action at home on Saturday against Queens with tip off at 12pm at the Coliseum.
