CARROLLTON, Ga.- West Georgia (4-12) dropped Tuesday's match against Central Arkansas (2-11) three sets to one. The Wolves continue UAC action on the road facing Little Rock next Thursday (Oct. 8) and will again face Central Arkansas again next Saturday (Oct. 10).
SET ONE: Opening up the first set aggressively, the Wolves would find their first lead of the day after a 6-0 run and would not give up the lead for the rest of the set. UWG kept pulling ahead after 9-4 via two Brooke McCall kills and a Courtney Joseph kill and block. West Georgia would take advantage of the seven attack errors and two service errors Central Arkansas would give. Brooke McCall would end the set with six kills, and Grace-Blythe Cornett would add three. UWG would take the first set 25-20.
SET TWO: The Wolves would find themselves down 8-2 to the Sugar Bears early in the second set; UCA would be backed by two kills from their previous UAC freshman of the week, Kennady Martindale. West Georgia would piece together a 6-2 run to narrow the gap, powered by two Valiree Schmus kills and four attack errors from Central Arkansas. UWG would narrow the deficit pulling within one late in the match but would drop the second set to UCA 25-20.
SET THREE: With an early 3-1 lead courtesy of two Sugar Bear errors, UCA would take the lead back 5-3 behind two Ella Chaney kills. Back-to-back kills from Brooke McCall would give UWG their first lead of the set 10-9. West Georgia would then succumb to a 10-0 Sugar Bear run, leading to a 20-10 UCA lead. Pulling within five at one time, the Wolves would drop the third set 25-19.
SET FOUR: Taking a 11-5 lead to begin the third set via three Brooke McCall kills and one a piece for Courtney Joseph and Milena Cetkovic. The Sugar Bears would take the lead after that and compile a 5-0 run behind two Trinity Hamilton service aces. UWG would drop the final set 25-18.
Brooke McCall would end the day with 22 kills, one short of her career high. Courtney Joseph would get her first Division I start and tally 2.5 blocks and three kills. Wolf setter Anežka Ouredníková would rack up 31 assists, which is her seventh game this season with 30+ assists.
Catch West Georgia Volleyball in action next Thursday (Oct. 8) to face the Trojans of Little Rock to continue UAC conference play. The match will be streamed on ESPN+, and as always Live Stats will be available for fans to follow along.
