Bears Defeat Wolves in Carrollton

CARROLLTON, Ga.- The University of West Georgia women's soccer team (0-10-2, 0-5 UAC) fell 3-1 to Central Arkansas (5-6-3, 2-2-1 UAC) on Sunday afternoon at University Soccer Field.

The first half featured competitive play from both sides, with Central Arkansas opening the scoring in the 25th minute. Jama Akpanudo found the back of the net off an assist from Caroline Billings on a breakaway, recording her fourth goal of the season.

The Bears continued to apply offensive pressure, but goalkeeper Siani Jones denied shots on target from Billings and Makenna Adam to keep the Wolves within striking distance.

West Georgia responded with opportunities of its own, as Rachel Higgins and Taylor Richardson each put a shot on target, but both attempts were stopped by Central Arkansas goalkeeper Anna Harrell.

With just under five minutes remaining in the first half, Noemi Casique converted a penalty kick in the 41st minute after being fouled in the box by the Bears' goalkeeper, leveling the score at 1-1. The teams entered halftime tied, with Central Arkansas holding a 10-3 advantage in shots and both goalkeepers recording two saves.

Central Arkansas regained the lead in the 53rd minute when Billings scored her sixth goal of the season off an assist from Sakiko Manabe. The second half featured increased physicality, with five yellow cards issued between the two teams.

Billings sealed the victory in the 85th minute, scoring her second goal of the match off an assist from Akpanudo to complete the brace and give Central Arkansas a 3-1 advantage. Casique recorded another shot on target late in the match, but Harrell made the save to preserve the Bears' two-goal lead.

Central Arkansas outshot West Georgia 20-6 and held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks. Jones finished with four saves for the Wolves, while Harrell recorded three for the Bears. Casique's penalty kick marked her third goal of the season and accounted for West Georgia's lone score.
