UWG Volleyball Set to Host Austin Peay Thursday Evening

CARROLLTON, Ga. - West Georgia Volleyball returns to the City of Dreams Thursday (Oct. 29) at 6 p.m. to host the Austin Peay Governors for the first time this season. Austin Peay is coming off a five-set loss to Little Rock, as UWG looking past a four-set skid to Abilene Christian. Make plans for Saturday (Oct. 31) for UWG Volleyball's Trick-or-Treat! Dress up and get in FREE! Parents, did you not dress up but your kid did? No worries because each kid dressed up will get a +1 for entry!

Defensively, the Wolves are led by Milena Cetkovic who leads the club in blocks, stuffing 61 on the season thus far, good for .75 a set. Cetkovic has blocked 18 total in her past four matches, including a career high seven at UT-Arlington (Oct. 17). She is on a 13-game streak of blocking one or more. Grace-Blythe Cornett has stepped up defensively in the past five games, recording 16 total blocks in those games.

Offensive, West Georgia is highlighted by Brooke McCall who leads the team and is third in the UAC for total kills with 267. Another Wolf on an offensive tear is Grace-Blythe Cornett. Cornett is on a six-game streak recording double-digit kills, featuring a 13-kill day while setting a new career high in digs with 15 against UT-Arlington (Oct. 17). Cornett's last game she smacked 13 kills in 30 attempts, good for .433%.

Austin Peay is led by middle blocker Nicole Okojie who has 19 total blocks in her past three matches and is second in the UAC in total blocks (93) good for 1.09/set. Taly Coy is the Governors leader in the kills with 202 on the season good for 2.53/set.

Two Wolves have submitted their names into the West Georgia record book this season. The Libero Giorgia Mandotti has 36 total service aces this season, placing her 9th for single season aces, tied with former Wolves Audrey Hipple (2009), Andressa Martins (2012), and Victoria Schmer (2024).

The graduate from Italy has a current average and team high of 4.43 digs/set which would rank 44th in the NCAA. Mandotti also averages .45 service aces-per-set, leading the team and placing her just outside the NCAA Top 50.

Desha Van Veldhuizen surpassed the 1000 career assist mark and now sits at 1,136 career assists, sitting 11th in UWG history, and 13 away from 10th.

The next West Georgia match is Halloween (Oct. 31) where they will host Tarleton State at 1 p.m. on campus at The Coliseum. Tickets for upcoming home matches can be found here, and as always UWG students get into home matches for FREE with a valid UWG ID!
