West Georgia (1-4, 0-0 UAC) has had two weeks to rest up and prepare to open the league portion of their schedule against an EKU (1-4, 0-1 UAC) team that is coming off of a home loss to open their league slate last week.
The Colonels fell to North Alabama while throwing four interceptions while the Wolves' last action was a 49-7 non-conference win over Fort Valley State back on September 26.
In UWG's last game, the offense put up 543 yards of offense while the defense played lights out, allowing less than 200 yards, just 11 first downs, all while putting points on the board with a pick six. The Wolves will be looking to ride the momentum of that victory and the rest from the bye week into a second straight victory over EKU. West Georgia defeated EKU in Carrollton in the 2025 UAC opener, but a win on Saturday would be UWG's first at Roy Kidd Stadium as the Colonels won the first-ever matchup in Richmond in 2024.
EKU's lone win of 2026 came over a Chattanooga team that handed UWG their first loss of the season. The Colonels' four losses came to UNA, Dayton, Jax State, and Western Carolina.
The Wolves will look to slow down the EKU rushing attack that averages 166.8 rushing yards per game, forcing the Colonels into passing downs. EKU, who has used two quarterbacks this season, has thrown a total of nine interceptions in five games. West Georgia's defense has just two interceptions this season but the last one, by Chancellor Bryant, was returned 40 yards for the Wolves' first defensive touchdown of the season. UWG has now had a defensive touchdown in 17 consecutive seasons with 2008 marking the last time a UWG defense did not record a score.
Chidu Bekee and Lucas Naquin lead all UWG tacklers with 32 while Stephan French and Andrew Ruffin each have 29.
Offensively, UWG's passing game has come into it's own over the past two games as Colton FitzGerald has thrown for 300-plus yards in back-to-back games, becoming the first passer in UWG's Division I era to do so. Last time out, the Santa Clarita, California native threw for 384 yards and four touchdowns to four different receivers.
While the rushing attack for UWG has been held in check by opponents, the Wolves did get rushing touchdowns from Justin Montgomery and Christian Monfort in the FVSU victory.
UWG is 1-1 in conference openers since elevating to Division I, FCS football in 2024. They fell to Abilene Christian in the 2024 opener, the program's inaugural UAC game while the Wolves' knocked off EKU in last season's conference opener.
Kickoff from Richmond, Kentucky and Roy Kidd Stadium is set for 6 p.m. on Saturday. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and fans can also listen to Seth Cain and Nick White on KISS 102.7 or the Gradick Listening Portal and App.
