Trojans Strike Early in 3-0 Win Over West Georgia

CARROLLTON, Ga.- The University of West Georgia women's soccer team (0-9-2, 0-4 UAC) fell 3-0 to Little Rock (3-5-3,1-1-2 UAC) on Thursday night at University Field, as the Trojans capitalized on two first half penalty kicks before adding a third goal in the second half.

Little Rock struck early when Maria Schuller, the UAC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, converted a penalty kick just 4:18 into the match after goalkeeper Emily Sanabria fouled her inside the box.

West Georgia responded by putting pressure on the Trojans' defense, with Isa Ramirez, Breanna DeWinter and Taylor Richardson each recording shots on goal during the opening half. However, the Trojans extended their advantage in the 27th minute after Ava Maldonado committed a foul in the box, setting up Maggie Turner for Little Rock's second successful penalty kick of the night at 27:45.

Noemi Casique added another shot on goal for the Wolves before halftime, but West Georgia entered the break trailing 2-0.

Both teams returned to the pitch with increased physicality in the second half, resulting in yellow cards for both teams in the 56th minute. The Wolves continued searching for a breakthrough, with Berkleigh Jernigan, Kaylen Brown and Rachel Higgins each testing Little Rock goalkeeper Reese Potts.

Despite UWG's efforts, Turner found the back of the net again in the 62nd minute, completing her brace off an assist from Camylle Graves to give the Trojans a 3-0 lead.

West Georgia continued to push offensively in the closing stages, recording seven shots in the second half as the Wolves searched for a way back into the match.

Kaialani Wise, Ava Maldonado and Ella Kappler each put shots on goal in the final stages of the match, but Little Rock's defense held firm to secure the 3-0 victory.

The Wolves will look to bounce back on Sunday, Oct. 11, when they welcome Central Arkansas to University Field for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
