Wolves Hold Off Alabama State in OT as O'Gara Sets New Career High

CARROLLTON, Ga. - West Georgia Women's Basketball (1-1) held off Alabama State (0-2), 80-78, in overtime, getting two late free throws from Grace O'Gara and a six-block night from Kobi Barnes to survive a game that was tied at 68 after regulation.

Grace O'Gara led the Wolves with 25 points, including a three-pointer with 1:33 left in overtime and two free throws with two seconds left to make it 80-76. Alabama State answered with a layup with one second to go.

UWG trailed 12-8 midway through the first quarter, but would closed the quarter on a 9-0 run, led by Parris Parham's eight first-quarter points, to take a 17-14 lead. The Wolves never trailed in the second quarter and built a nine-point lead, 35-26, before Alabama State hit two threes in the last 1:25 to cut it to 35-32 at halftime.

The Wolves would stretch their lead to 56-46 in the third off Sydne Tolbert layups, an O'Gara three, and Mya Jones free throws, but Alabama State closed the quarter pulling within 56-51. The Hornets took over in the fourth sinking eight straight points to take their first lead since the first quarter, 64-63 ASU. Tolbert's two free throws and O'Gara's free throw made it 68-65 with 13 seconds left, but ASU's Ny'Keria Flowers would sink a three with three seconds left to force overtime.

Overtime stayed tight. Parham's three made it 71-68, and the game was tied at 71, 73, and 75. Meghan Gentile's jumpshot put the Wolves up 73-71, Tolbert hit two free throws for a 75-73 lead, and an O'Gara three made it 78-75. O'Gara would then be fouled snagging her own offensive rebound with two seconds left and hit both free throws.
