UWG Baseball Drops Series Finale

MOBILE, Ala. - West Georgia baseball was walked off in the ninth by South Alabama today, falling 2-1 in the road series finale at Stanky Field.

On the heels of a double-digit defeat that was powered by 18 South Alabama (8-3) hits and three UWG (1-11) errors, the Wolves responded in the series closer with a stingy defense spearheaded by Lex Kenny's impressive start. Locked at 1-1 through eight innings, the Jaguars were able to capitalize on a handful of costly mistakes to walk the Wolves off and secure the series sweep.

Tying his UWG-high of six innings pitched, Kenny struck out two Jaguars and gave up one earned run in today's start.

Today's game opened with leadoff hitter Patrick McCullough crushing a solo home run to put the Pack up 1-0 in the first. This marked his first homer since the Wolves elevated to DI.

With the Wolves' defense limiting South Alabama's scoring opportunities, UWG would maintain the tight lead through a hanful of frames.

Three innings would pass before South Alabama evened the game at 1-1 with a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth.

During the bottom of the seventh, it looked like the Jaguars were going to take the lead when a pair of walks and a hit-by-pitch loaded the bases with two outs, but the Wolves escaped the inning still tied on a routine infield play.

Still locked at 1-1 in the bottom of the ninth, USA capitalized on two walks and a passed ball that allowed a runner to advance into scoring position. With only one out, the Jaguars' sacrifice fly to center field was enough to give the hosts a 2-1 win.

Zane Wright was tagged with the loss, bringing his season record to 0-3. In two innings, he struck out one batter and was charged with one earned run.

The team takes one of its biggest breaks of the season before heading roughly 1000 miles northwest to take on the Wichita State Shockers in a four-game series next weekend. This trip is the furthest the Wolves will travel this season.
