ATHENS, Ga. - The University of West Georgia Softball team was shut out by No. 13 University of Georgia tonight on the road. The Wolves were run-ruled by the Bulldogs, falling 8-0 after 5 innings.
The Wolves (8-17) were limited to only 3 hits while UGA (20-7) gathered 12 hits and 8 runs through the final four innings of the five-inning game.Â
The Wolves were able to get a hit first, and senior pitcher
Calli Hardison survived the first inning scoreless but were unable to get runs on the board. The Bulldogs' bats came alive in the second inning and were able to score a run.Â
After the second inning, the Bulldogs kept the runs coming; four singles on four hits led to three more runs in the third, and the Wolves were unable to surmount UGA's batting.Â
The Bulldogs did not let up throughout the night, scoring one more run in the fourth and three more runs in the fifth; two of which were the result of a UGA homerun. Georgia sealed the deal with a walk-off single to win the game over the Wolves.Â
West Georgia stays home this weekend as they kick off ASUN conference play against Jacksonville University in a 3-game series. The series begins with a doubleheader Saturday at 1 and 3:30 p.m, and closes the series Sunday at noon.Â
