CARROLLTON, Ga. - The UWG softball team was swept in Friday's ASUN doubleheader by Stetson at University Field, falling 13-3 and 8-1 to open the April slate.
West Georgia (11-27, 3-8 ASUN) were held to just five hits over 12 innings of softball while Stetson (24-15, 9-2 ASUN), who entered the series with 50 home runs, slugged six more in the two Friday games combined to clinch the series victory in Carrollton.
GAME ONE
Stetson used five hits, two of them home runs, to strike first in the opening inning, but to the Wolves credit, they struck back for two in their half. Sky Ramos got aboard with a bloop single down the left field line and Jenna Samuel slugged a home run to centerfield to cut into the lead and make it 5-2 after one.
After Hoyle got through a scoreless second, the Hatters added four on five hits and were poised for more until Zekylah Boyd threw out a would be run at the plate.
Four more for Stetson in the fourth made it a 13-2 lead for the visitors.
The Wolves didn't get another hit until the fourth when Madison McDonald slugged a solo shot to make it a 13-3 deficit.
That would be the final score as UWG was outhit 14-3 in the game.
GAME TWO
Cacie Cutright got the start in the second game, and was tagged for one run on three walks and an error in the second inning and then walks hurt her in the third as Stetson added one more in the third to go up 2-0.
In the fourth, Cutright broke up Ava Braswell's no-hit bid with a solo shot to cut the Stetson lead in half.
Braswell would surrender just one more hit over the remainder of the game while Stetson added a third run in the fifth thanks to an error before the Hatters used five hits including two home runs in the seventh to break it open and win by seven.
NOTABLE NUMBERS
