UWG Baseball Adds McCrary to the Staff

8/24/2026 3:39:00 PM

CARROLLTON, Ga. - West Georgia head baseball coach Jeff Smith announced on Monday afternoon the addition of Cody McCrary as the Wolves' newest assistant coach.

"I'm very excited that Cody is joining our staff this year," said Smith. "He will bring valuable baseball knowledge while helping our outfielders and catchers. He also has experience in recruiting that will be an asset to our evaluation of future players. In addition to working with our outfielders and catchers, Cody will be assisting Bryan Niedbalski with our hitters and will coach first base."

McCrary brings six years of experience in coaching, player development and scouting across the professional, collegiate and youth levels to the Pack.

At the professional level, McCrary has worked with the Tampa Bay Rays since 2024 as an associate scout evaluating Georgia high school prospects. He also scouted for the Philadelphia Phillies from 2023-24 while serving as the head coach of the Phillies 15u and 16u teams, but his coaching experience doesn't end there.

From 2024-26, McCrary served as the recruiting coordinator and hitting coach for Gordon State College. During this span, McCrary coached the 2025 GCAA Player of the Year in Gavin West, and developed four First Team All-Conference players, four Second Team All-Conference players and three GCAA Gold Glove winners. Gordon State also had 23 players move on to four-year programs, including seven players who went on to compete for DI programs.

As a player, McCrary competed for Wallace State as a first baseman and designated hitter, before going on to earn his bachelor's degree from Georgia Southern.
