CARROLLTON, Ga.- The University of West Georgia women's soccer team (0-5-1) battled Georgia State (4-2-1) Thursday night at University Soccer Field, but the Panthers pulled away late to hand the Wolves a 4-1 defeat. 

The loss moves West Georgia to 0-5-1 on the season and drops the Wolves to 0-2 all-time against Georgia State.

The Panthers struck first just 44 seconds into the match when Abby Batts found the back of the net off a pass from Carys Fraser.

The Wolves responded with pressure of their own as Kaylen Brown recorded two shots in the opening half while West Georgia searched for the equalizer. In the 31st minute, Isa Ramirez put a shot on goal, continuing the Wolves' offensive pressure.

West Georgia eventually found its equalizer in the 59th minute. Ramirez finished a free kick from Noemi Casique to put the Wolves on the board and give the team its first goal at University Soccer Field since Oct. 25 of last season against North Florida. 

The Panthers regained the lead in the 81st minute when Batts scored her second goal of the night. Batts completed the hat trick just five minutes later in the 86th minute to extend Georgia State's advantage to 3-1.

GSU continued to add pressure late, with Sunniyah Tucker scoring in the 88th minute to cap the scoring at 4-1.

In goal, Emily Sanabria made eight saves for the Wolves. The performance gives Sanabria 22 career saves in two matches against Georgia State, following her 14-save performance in her first career start against the Panthers last season.

West Georgia finished the night with seven shots, putting four on frame, while Georgia State recorded 16 shots and 12 shots on goal. 

West Georgia closes out its nonconference schedule on Sunday, Sept. 13, at 6 p.m. when the Wolves travel to Kennesaw State for their final nonconference match of the season.
