KENNESAW, Ga. - Playing their first-ever FBS opponent, the UWG football team dropped a 47-0 decision to Kennesaw State on Thursday night at Fifth Third Stadium.
West Georgia (0-2) was outmatched against a Kennesaw State (1-0) team that rushed for 297 yards and threw for 211. The Wolves' offense had just 160 yards of total offense and managed only 49 yards on the ground.
UWG's defense was led by Chancellor Bryant and Lucas Naquin who had seven tackles each.
The Owls won the toss and wanted the ball and they cashed in quickly as Latrelle Murrell capped off a 53-yard drive by scampering 45 yards for the game's first score. KSU would miss the PAT and lead 6-0.
After the Wolves couldn't capitalize on a fumble recovery, Kennesaw State struck on another big play as Triston Morgan went 60 yards and they led 12-0 after a failed two-point conversion.
On the ensuing kickoff, UWG coughed up a fumble, and KSU pounced on it and quarterback Rickie Collins called his own number and scored ffrom the three-yard line to make it 19-0, Owls late in the first quarter.
Murrell added a 17-yard touchdown midway through the second quarter, extending the Owls lead to 26-0. KSU would add another score as Collins pulled it on a zone read and scored from 24 yards out, extending the lead to 33-0 at the 3:22 mark of the period. The Owls scored right after the two-minute timeout to take a 40-0 lead into the halftime break.
Kennesaw State scored on their opening drive of the second half as Collins found Dylan Gary on a nine-yard touchdown pass.
Justin Wilson had a bright spot for the defense, picking off a KSU pass to give the Wolves two takeaways on the night.
The Wolves are on the road next week at Arkansas State, taking on the Red Wolves in Jonesboro in a 7 p.m. ET kickoff.

- The game had a 1:18 weather delay, kicking off at 8:18 p.m.
- UWG's offensive output was the lowest since the rainy homecoming game against West Florida in 2019 (147) and it was the first time the Wolves have been held under 200 yards of offense since 2019 against West Alabama (194).
- Justin Wilson's interception was the first of his career.
- Three of the KSU touchdowns were scored by former UWG players as Latrelle Murrell scored twice and Dylan Gary hauled in one TD pass.
