Mallory Sayre was named the sixth head women’s soccer coach in University of West Georgia program history in January of 2024. Her first season at the helm coincided with a historic moment for the program, as West Georgia competed in its inaugural season at the Division I level and joined the Atlantic Sun Conference.
In 2024, Sayre guided the Wolves to a 2-14-1 record while overseeing several milestone achievements. UWG secured its first Division I victory in program history with a win over Alabama State on September 8, followed by the program’s first-ever Atlantic Sun Conference win against Jacksonville on September 29.
Building on that foundation, Sayre led noticeable progress during the 2025 season, doubling the team’s win total from the previous year with four victories, earning a 4-13-2 record in her second season as head coach. The Wolves also faced their first Southeastern Conference opponent under Sayre’s leadership, taking on Kentucky in a landmark non-conference matchup. Home-field performance was a point of emphasis, as three of UWG’s four wins came at home.
A former goalkeeper, Sayre entered her head coaching role with nine seasons of assistant coaching experience across all three NCAA divisions. Prior to arriving in Carrollton, she spent two seasons at Georgia Southern, where she played a key role in building one of the nation’s top defensive units. In 2022, the Eagles allowed just 12 goals overall and only two in Sun Belt Conference play, finishing 8-4-5 and capturing the Sun Belt regular season title. The team posted a program-record 0.71 goals-against average and recorded eight shutouts. Georgia Southern followed with a 12-win campaign in 2023.
Before her time with the Eagles, Sayre served as an assistant coach at Gulf South Conference rival Alabama Huntsville for two seasons. In 2021, the Chargers’ goalkeepers allowed just one goal per game under her guidance. She also spent five seasons at Division III Oglethorpe, where she oversaw goalkeepers and defenders while managing recruiting and travel responsibilities.
As a player, Sayre enjoyed a standout collegiate career at North Georgia, compiling a 56-17-4 record in goal. She recorded a Peach Belt Conference-best 27 career shutouts and finished with a 0.97 career goals-against average.
Sayre earned her bachelor’s degree in physical education from the University of North Georgia in 2016 and completed her master’s degree in physical education at UNG in 2018.
